Inside the worksheet
How the ACT values worksheet works
Values in eight life areas, the way Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches them. Rate how much each area matters and how fully you live it, then choose one step where the gap is widest. It takes 20 to 30 minutes.
- 1
Describe what matters in each area
Eight life areas: family, partner, friends, work, learning, health, leisure and community. For each, write the kind of person you want to be there, in a few words.
- 2
Rate importance and how you live it
Give each area two numbers from 0 to 10. How important it is to you, and how fully you have lived by it over the past two weeks.
- 3
Find the widest gap
Copy the numbers into one table and subtract. An area that matters a lot and is lived little is where a small change counts most.
- 4
Choose one step
Plan one small action toward that area: what, when, what might get in the way, and what you will do if it does.

For therapists and coaches
Using it with a client
- 01
Values before goals
Keep the first page about direction rather than outcomes. A value can be lived today. A goal is something you tick off.
- 02
Notice the gap without judging it
A wide gap is information, not a failure. It is often where avoidance or difficult thoughts are getting in the way.
- 03
End with committed action
Keep the step small enough to happen this week, and plan for the barrier before it shows up.

Questions
Questions about the ACT values worksheet
In Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), values are chosen directions for how you want to live, and a values worksheet helps a client name them and see where life has drifted away from them. Many ACT worksheets work by life area, rating how important each area is and how consistently it is lived.
No. It is a worksheet inspired by the values work in ACT, written by Personalvalu.es. It is not the Valued Living Questionnaire or another validated measure, and it is meant for reflection and conversation rather than scoring.
Eight: family, partner or close relationship, friends and social life, work, learning and personal growth, health and body, leisure and play, and community and citizenship. An area that does not apply can be left blank.
The core values worksheet asks which values matter most to you, out of a list of 62, and ranks them. This one starts from the areas of your life and asks what matters in each one, and how closely you are living it. The two work well together.
